Making the most of your stay

Welcome to Auchgoyle Bay Cottage

A very warm welcome to Auchgoyle Bay Cottage. We really appreciate you choosing our cottage for your holiday. We hope you have a lovely stay and that you enjoy Mid Argyll and Loch Fyneside as much as we do. The following notes are here to help you have a comfortable break.

We live next door at 5 Lower Achagoyle. Please just knock on the door or call us on 07708 461081 or 07708 461255 if you have any queries about the cottage, would like ideas for things to do or need anything to make your stay more comfortable.

Quick things to get you started

No smoking

The cottage is strictly no smoking.

A quick leg stretch after your journey

The ‘circuit’ is a short 1 mile (1.6 km) walk around the village. Follow the road up the hill and the footpath to the right of the last house at the top of the hill (Upper Achagoyle). You’ll then cross the footbridge over Auchgoyle Burn.

The unmade track on the far side of the burn will bring you back to the main road and you can walk back along to the cottage.

On a warm sunny day you may get to see adders basking on top of the wall by the unmade track. If they’re out, stand at a safe distance so that you don’t disturb them.

Internet, TV, DVD player, radio and wireless speaker

A note of the WIFI code is on the small table in the sitting room. On some devices you can connect automatically by scanning the QR code.

Feel free to watch any of the DVDs. Our TV is watchable using Freeview via the internet – separate instructions are available next to the TV.

There is a DAB radio in the kitchen.

There is a wireless speaker on the small table in the living room – you will need to find ‘living room’ in your phone’s settings to connect to it. (It is an Ikea speaker that is compatible with the Sonos system.)

Heating and hot water

The heating and hot water are set so that you should not need to adjust anything during your stay. You can override the programmed settings using the ‘advance’ button and dial or buttons to adjust the temperature.

The log stove in the living room is set ready for you to light the fire. You need to adjust the vent on the front of the stove to control the rate at which the wood burns. If you need more logs, please ask as we have extra supplies available.

Find out more about controlling the heating and hot water.

The garden

Please walk around the stone sheds, having turned left with the house behind you. The back garden for the cottage is accessed via the 2nd set of steps from the left. Immediately outside the back of the cottage are benches and a table – you are welcome to use this shared facility. There is also a bench at the front of the cottage.

There is a fire pit in the garden made from a converted washing machine drum. If you’d like to use this, please ask us for wood.

Parking

Feel free to park along the road or directly in front of the cottage.

Children

Children are very welcome. We have some toys, books and games which they can enjoy whilst at the cottage. We have a travel cot in the main bedroom, high chair in the kitchen cupboard and socket covers are stored in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.

Please be aware that cleaning products are stored under the sink in the kitchen and the bathroom box and there are fire-lighters and matches by the fire. Please feel free to move these out of reach during your stay.

Day to day info

The cottage’s postal address is 4 Lower Achagoyle, Minard, Inveraray, PA32 8YD and the cottage’s what3words are ///sweetly.wisely.configure

Toilet rolls and toiletries

You will find a supply of these in the bathroom box.

Bins and recycling

Please use the green or grey wheelie bin for general waste and the blue bin for recyclables (excluding glass). There is a note on the tin bin inside the kitchen on what you can recycle – including paper, card, tins, aluminium cans/foil (clean), plastic bottles, yogurt/margarine tubs and plastic food trays. Glass may be recycled in the bins by the fire station or you can collect them for us to recycle when you leave (the fire station is up the hill approx 50 metres behind the cottage).

Cleaning

Washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bin bags and household cleaning products are by the kitchen sink and in the cupboard under the kitchen sink as well as in the bathroom box. Please feel free to use them during your stay. The vacuum cleaner, broom, dustpan and brush, laundry basket, iron and clothes airer are in the cupboards at either end of the kitchen.

Washing machine, tumble dryer and washing line

These are available for you to use during your stay. We supply clothes washing liquid and fabric conditioner. The machines are in the stone shed opposite the small shop extension (2nd door from the right as you look at the sheds from the conservatory). The washing machine nearer the door has a larger capacity than the one underneath the dryer.  The washing line is in the back garden; pegs are under the kitchen sink.

Linen and towels

We provide bed linen, towels, tea towels, a cloth and oven gloves for your use during your stay.  There is a single waterproof sheet in the cupboard in the twin room.

Mobile signal

This can be patchy, depending on your provider. The walls of the cottage are thick and can prevent reception- we find standing in a window or the conservatory is often the best place to make a call.

Breakages

Accidents happen – please don’t worry! We don’t charge for breakages, but we do ask that you let us know so that we can replace items as quickly as possible, thank you .

Travel

Please take extra care on our roads. They are bendy and people drive fast – please allow others to pass to prevent frustration. The roads you will use are also used by locals for everyday purposes. Watch out for deer and in the winter, black ice. Please consider using our buses – you can find timetables and book tickets via www.citylink.co.uk

Before you go…

Thank you for choosing to stay with us
